About RedRum and Policies

How can I contact RedRum?

You can contact us the following ways:
Email: info@ redrumcabo. com
US Phone: 760- 481- 7667
Mexican Phone: ( 011- 52) 624- 172- 0085
Visit our office during office hours.

What are the RedRum Office hours?

Our office is open from 6:30 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. We close for a few hours after the boats have been sent off with our clients to take care of business outside of the office. We re-open our office at 10:00 a. m. and close around 4:30 p.m.

Where is the RedRum Office located?

We are located on the marina in the building called Marina Cabo Plaza. For those taking a taxi, it’s easiest to tell the driver to drop you off at Hacienda Dock. From there you'll walk to the right and we are located on the first corner. You can also tell a taxi to drop you off at Marina Cabo Plaza, walk through the lobby and we are located on the water side on the marina.

Where can I park?

We recommend parking in the Puerto Paraiso Mall. It's a safe place to leave your car and there is always plenty of parking. The price to park at the Mall is $15.00 pesos ( about $ 1.50 USD) per day. Once you park in the mall you' ll exit the mall on the marina side and walk to your left. We are about a 10 minute walk from the mall. Our office is on the second corner you’ll hit, just past the Mango Cantina.

Does RedRum provide transportation?

It is the clients responsibility to make arrangements for transportation to and from the RedRum office for their fishing day. Due to the taxi unions here in Cabo we are unable to provide any type of transportation for our clients. Lo siento.

How do I pay my balance?

We ask that you pay your balance at our office in Cabo. We accept US Dollars, Mexican Pesos, and Visa or Mastercard. For credit card transactions we charge the 11% Mexican I. V. A tax and a 3% processing fee. We do not accept American Express or Travelers Checks.

Who do I make my complaints to if I’m unsatisfied?

Any grievances or complaints you may have about your day on the water we welcome you to discuss it with the owners, John Donovan, Ryan Donovan or Brooke Donovan.

Do I get a refund if the weather is bad or I get sick?

When the Port is closed due to bad weather, which is dictated by the Port Captain, we will do our best to reschedule you. If we are unable to find another date for you, we will give you a 100% refund for the Port being closed. We do not provide any refund for those that get sick.

Do I get a refund or discount if I don’t catch anything?

We don’t give discounts or refunds for days that fish aren’t caught. And unfortunately we can’t guarantee that you will catch something, but with our proven success your chances are pretty good of getting that dream Baja catch on board. That being said, it is called fishing, not catching.

What can I do to prevent being seasick?

There are many options to prevent getting seasick. If you decide to take any medications, please consult your doctor. A few options you can inquire about are: Dramamine, Scopace, Ginger Tablets and not drinking tequila after 8 pm.

Can I request a specific captain for a specific boat?

All of our crews exclusively work on their specific boat. We don’t like to switch Captains to different boats that they aren’t accustomed to working on. Just think, you wouldn’t want to work at someone else’s desk for the day!

Can I cancel once I arrive?

Yes you can but please note the cancellation policy will remain in effect for tours cancelled. Please see the cancellation policy below.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require a $250 deposit to reserve a boat per day of fishing. Our refund and cancellation policy is as follows. 100% refund of your deposit if we are notified of cancellation 14 days or more before you schedule charter date(s). A 100% refund is given if the Port is closed and we are unable to reschedule you. 50% refund of your deposit if we are notified of cancellation 8- 13 days before your scheduled charter date(s). 0% refund of your deposit if we are notified of cancellation 7 days or less before your scheduled charter date(s), or if we are not notified at all. All tournament deposits are non-refundable and will be charged in full. For refunds that do apply, we will send a US check in the mail. If you have left us your credit card information, your credit card will be charged based on the amount and time frame listed above for your scheduled charter date. To make a cancellation, please send an email to info@redrumcabo.com

Fishing and Charters

How do I book a charter?

You are able to book through the following ways:
Online via this website on our Reservations link, shoot us an email or give us a call. We require a $ 250 deposit on all of our charters. This deposit can be made online via our Reservations page. Once we receive your deposit we’ll send you an email confirmation providing all other details of your trip. When you arrive in Cabo, we’ll have you pay your balance.

When and where do I go for my RedRum fishing charter?

We ask all of our clients to be at the RedRum Office at 6: 30 in the morning. This allows us plenty of time to check everyone in, pay the balance, get your licenses and walk you down to the boats. If you arrive any earlier than 6: 30 chances are you won' t get out on the water any earlier. We ask that you be patient and wait until we' ve got everything ready for a great day on the water!

Do I need a Mexican fishing license?

The Port Captain doesn’t care whether you plan to sunbathe, read, nap or fish, if you are over the age of 12, you are required to purchase a Mexican Fishing License. They sell licenses at various booths around the Marina, but we always go and buy enough for everyone before you get here in the morning. The licenses are $ 13, per person, per day and are not included in your charter cost unless otherwise specified.

Can I add an extra person above and beyond the maximum passengers on the boat?

Due to Coast Guard safety regulations the maximum amount of people is a set standard that can’t be exceeded. If the maximum amount of people allowed on board is 6, we cannot squeeze a 7th person on board, it doesn’t matter if the 7th person is fishing or if they are a child, it’s just not allowed.

Do the captains and mates speak English?

Yes, our crews are bilingual. Sometimes you need to coax it out of them, but they will do their best. Think about learning English as a second language and one day you have a family from the Bayou’s of Louisiana on board and the next day you have four guys from Dublin, Ireland. You don t need to speak any louder, but slowing it down a bit may help.

How long is a full- day charter?

Full-day charters are 8 hours.

What about half- day charters?

Half-day charters are 5 hours. However sometimes the fish are 25- 30 miles out and we cannot get there and back in a half day trip. Which in this case we recommend booking a full day trip. But feel free to inquire about the availability of these trips.

I’d like to share a boat, how do I set that up?

We do our best to accommodate those that would like to share a boat. We have added a new page to our website dedicated to helping folks find someone to share a boat with. From the home page if you navigate to the Reservations section of the site you can find our share board.

What time will I return from my fishing trip?

Full day charters return around 2:30- 3:00 pm. Half day charters return around 11:30-12:00. Of course if you’re fighting that monster fish, you might get back a bit later!

What should I bring along for my fishing trip?

The most important thing on the trip is that you are comfortable. Be sure to bring sunscreen, sunglasses and protective clothing depending on the weather. This might be a light jacket for the early morning chill or a bathing suit to soak up the hot sun in the afternoon. Layers are always a great idea.

What is included in the breakfast snack & lunch?

We provide a breakfast snack which includes a granola bar, usually an orange or apple and a juice box. Your lunch includes a turkey or ham sandwich, chips, cookies and plenty of water. You are more than welcome to bring any other beverages or food on board as we know everyone has a different culinary taste! We just try to keep it simple and focus on the fishing.

Can we get beer or other beverages for the boat?

Yes, you can purchase or we can purchase it (and then you can purchase it from us.)
There is a little tienda around the corner from our office, they have a good selection of beverages and they are open early. Either way; we’ll have a cooler with ice for you. Glass bottles are not allowed on board.

What style of fishing can I expect in Cabo?

We have found that many different types of fishing are successful in Cabo depending on weather, species and time of year. From trolling to kite fishing to throwing live bait to bottom fishing, any number of techniques can be used and suggested by your Captain for the best results. With this being said the technique used the most is trolling with lures. Upon finding fish, throwing bait and other methods may be used.

Can you guarantee that we can catch fish?

Unfortunately we can’t guarantee that you will catch fish, but we can guarantee that our crew will work their hardest to get you on the fish and more often than not, get that fish to bite!

How do I request to fish for a certain species?

Fishing for a certain type of species depends on the species, the time of year, the water temperature, currents, barometric pressures, zodiac signs, the Chinese new year, etc... Our crew will work their hardest to find the fish of your choice; however certain times of year are better for some species than others. It’s always good to have an open mind to go after species in season versus going after those that aren’t in season; it can make a difference in your catch rates.

When is the best time to fish for marlin, tuna, dorado, wahoo etc. ?

Check out our fishing calendar.

What is your catch & release policy?

We highly encourage the catch and release of all billfish including, blue, black, white and striped marlin, and sailfish. Catching a Billfish is a bucket-list type activity; let’s ensure that our great-grandchildren get the same opportunities as we have.

How many fish can I keep?

By law, each boat is allowed to keep one billfish. However, RedRum strongly encourages clients to catch and release all billfish due to conservation efforts. If the fish is healthy the Captain will ask if you would like to bring it on board and take a quick picture. The fish’s health is our primary concern, so please don’t give the guys a hard time if they decide against it. For other species, no more than 3 can be kept per angler. We also encourage the release of juvenile species to keep our fishing grounds rich and bountiful!

Where can I get my fish cleaned?

Due to Mexican law and regulation, all fish are to be cleaned at the filet station; we are unable to do this on board as much as we’d prefer to do so. The filet station is located on the marina and will be your last stop before heading back to our office. As you may imagine the filet station charges a fee to clean the fish and it is often arbitrary. Your Captain or Mate will walk you through this process, no worries. Once you are done there, you' re welcome to bring it back to our office to be sealed and frozen or we can recommend a local spot for you to get it cooked up.

Where can I freeze my catch?

At RedRum we will gladly vacuum seal and deep freeze your catch if you'd like to take it back home with you. We have a commercial grade vacuum sealer in our office that does the job. There is no cost for RedRum clients for this service! It usually takes 8- 12 hours for the fish to freeze completely, depending on how much fish you have. When the fish is frozen or when you are leaving town you can swing by our office with your plastic, not Styrofoam, cooler and pick up the fish during our office hours.

Where can I cook up my catch?

There are many great places in Cabo that will gladly make you a feast whether it be tacos at lunch or a fabulous dinner. Inquire in our office and we’ll be glad to send you in the right direction.

How can I bring my fish home?

To bring your fish home you' ll need a plastic hard sided cooler. Airlines will not allow Styrofoam or soft-sided coolers without a fight, so save yourself the trouble and get a plastic cooler. You can bring one down with you from the states or you can buy one at our office or somewhere in Cabo.

How can I mount my catch?

If you’d like to mount your catch, we’re glad to help you do so. You are welcome to ask your Captain or one of us in the office about pricing and shipping.

Do I need to kill my catch to mount it?

You never have to kill your catch to mount it. If you’d like to mount your catch, let your Captain know and he’ll take a measurement of your fish before it is released. From there we’ll contact the taxidermy company to determine the price based on the size and length of your fish. Nowadays all mounts are made from fiberglass mold replicas, hardly any are made from the real fish anymore.

How much should I tip the crew?

The standard is 10- 20% based on your satisfaction of the crew s performance.

What type of bait, and how many are included in the trip?

We do our best to put 10 live Greenback Mackerel or Caballito on each boat which is included in your charter price. Sometimes this amount is based on availability so please be understanding if our bait providers are unable to meet this number. Catching bait fish, at times is not different than catching Marlin or Dorado, it is still fishing. If you would like more bait, let your Captain know and if it’s available you are welcome to buy more bait at the beginning of your trip. Bait runs $30 USD for 10 bait.
