What is going on with the Cabo Marina?

The Cabo Marina is in the midst of a shake-up. On April 11th, 2024. The IGY Marina was seized by the Mexican Government. On April 12th, Marines in uniform chained all the gate access to the boats without prior notice stranding clients and crew. We were able to safely get clients back to land by hiring a water taxi. By April 13th, the gates were unchained, but the water and electricity were shut off, and the fuel dock was closed. We had assumed that this was done as a negotiation technique or a hostile takeover; It turns out that it was both.

The previous management of the Marina, IGY, have been very transparent with their former clients. They believe they are an injured party and believe they have the legal right to fulfill their contracts with their clients. Most private sportfishing vessels and a few charter companies have annual contracts paid in advance to IGY, the former management company. IGY has been providing all services, electricity, fresh water, gas, and fuel to the majority of the marina for decades.

As clients of Mar Vida Sportfishing, your charter with us will not be affected by the debacle. We have had to get creative to keep things going, bringing water from outside sources, maintaining our boats, and operating as usual. Rest assured, under the Mar Vida umbrella, things will be taken care of by us. We will be monitoring this situation as things progress and be providing our guests with updates or changes that arise.

Tight lines and good vibes!
